Many people dread seeing The Tower (16/7) in a tarot spread as it is often associated with disaster, difficult circumstances and emotional upheaval. However if you look closely at The Tower card it is more about an awakening of some sort. The tower shows a crown on the top being knocked off by the lightning strike. The Tower psychically represents how we see our selves, our sense of self and ego or our identity. It is what we have come to see as our sense of security and the foundation of our every day life. The lightning represents information or a situation that destroys this perception that we have of our reality, our crown or ego is knocked off, The Tower collapses and we have to rebuild from the ground up.
Sometimes a difficult shock like being made redundant at work or finding out something about our partner or a friend that is a shock can be an awakening and may direct us into new pathways and new opportunities in life. Although the energy of the Tower can be quite difficult when we encounter it it can also be liberating and allow us to reinvent ourselves to a much stronger and more authentic representation of who we are.
